Zune Player Hands On Gallery

The folks over at Engadget have finally been able to sit down with three Zunes and take some high resolution photographs of the player and the software that accompanies the player. I must say that the Zune does look good, albeit it being a little on the thick side. Although it is appealing and all, I think I will stick with my current MP3 player. The price is the only thing that drives me away from having MP3 players with video capabilities.

More details on Zune

If you are like me, and just biting your nails to whether Microsoft’s Zune will be an Ipod-killer (which I hope it to be), then you must read this Engadget article that includes more details and the packaging that the Zune is supposed to come in.

Zune, the odds and ends wrapup - Engadget

Will the Zune be able to beat the Ipod. Well maybe it can. Although the Ipod has a well-established image, reputation and customer base, considering how Microsoft did with it’s Xbox, it isn’t completely impossible. Microsoft door-crashed the video game console party with their newbie, Xbox. Although it had to compete against previously established Sony Entertainment and Nintendo, Microsoft did surpisingly well, gaining it’s own chunk of market share, beating out Nintendo.

So when Microsoft releases the Zune, it’s going to get it’s own small chunk on market share, beating out many companies already in the market. By the time the next-gen versions of the Zune come around, it should have gained quite a sizable chunk of the market. After a couple of years, it will have a good chance of beating Ipod.

Now to all you Apple/Ipod fanboys out there, don’t flame or criticize me for my predictions. Not everyone will love the Ipod. I don’t go with mainstream devices because often, the lesser known ones are better. So I guess we will have to wait and see this holiday season whether the Zune will float or swim in the turbulent waters of the MP3 market.

iRiver’s latest super e-dictionary, the D25

iRiver D25
The third in their series of e-dictionaries, the D25 doesn’t sound like it’ll be all that different from the D20, although the subdued black and burgundy design has been replaced by a polished white perhaps meant to fool folks into thinking they’re getting a Nintendo DS. As usual, machine translation has thwarted my best attempts to learn the full specs on this one (Google translator, how you have failed me again); although I do know that it sports a 4.3-inch screen, 1.3GB internal capacity, SD / MMC slot, MP3 support, and

Asus releases R2H UMPC

Well Asus has decided to take the plunge into the multimedia, multi-purpose handheld devices market. This new handheld computer from them will feature a 7-inch screen, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR, 802.11a/b/g, fingerprint reader, drive options up to 60GB, and an anemic 900MHz Celeron M ULV. There has been no official release date or price announced for this product, but you can expect this product to sell for upwards of $800 USD (typical, all the stuff with the cool features always is too pricey for me).

14 year old girl sues friend over missing iPod

Apple IPod

Such stories like this one always give me a good laugh. Isn’t it great how our youth is being brought up? Fourteen year old Shannon Derrik has filed a lawsuit against her (now former) friend Stephanie Eick for losing her IPod. The suit has been filed in Wheaton, Illinois. It seems that Shannon made the mistake of lending her iPod to Stephanie, who decided it would be a good idea to give back the iPod by leaving it on Shannon’s desk rather than waiting for her to return from the restroom to hand… Continue reading

Microsoft to release portable MP3 Player called Zune

Yes, you read the title right. Microsoft is following Apple’s path in creating a portable MP3 player called the Zune to compete with Apple’s IPod. Not many details were released, however it is speculated that the device will also be capable of playing videos. Unlike IPod and ITunes which are separate services/products that can connect and interface with one another, the Zune player and the services that will also carry its name will be a completely integrated end-to-end solution.

Now this is really cool. A MP3 player the size of a sugar cube pretty much. Well I guess it would be a mistake to misplace it because chances… Continue reading
