Recently, a new type of threat has emerged on the internet. It is called spyware and adware. These are programs that self-install themselves, often when you are browsing a website and perhaps with a freeware program (so always remember to read the license agreement or EULA or TOS in any setup program before installing freeware)! Spyware tracks your web surfing habits, which sites you visit, and collects personal information about you to deliver to someone else. Adware displays pop ups even when you don’t have your web browser open. Both of these types of programs slow your computer to a crawl.
