Steampunk - The Best of Hi-Tech and Old-Tech

For many anime fans out there, you’ll know what steampunk is. In fact, it isn’t only restricted to anime, the setting is also used in video games such as Final Fantasy and even some Hollywood movies. For others who don’t know what steampunk is, it basically is a world where technology from the Industrial Revolution (19th Century) and Victorian-England styling meet and combine smoothly with science-fiction or fantasy elements such as futuristic technologies and devices.

Basically, I am a massive fan of steampunk. Some great examples of steampunk is Last Exile and Full Metal Alchemists.

The reason why I love steampunk so much is because it has an old feel to it. You get that nogastlic feeling of watching history unfold before you eyes without making you bored. There are always interesting elements that separate it from a true historical-based show. Of course these interesting elements are often science fiction or fantasy, but such a combination creates a sort of connection between the past and future - seeing old and new technology being combined to form a totally unique world.

The Result?

Basically a world that is immersive, fascinating and interesting for the viewer. It’s not a run-of-the-mill futuristic world and it isn’t the modern world either. It’s a totally new mysterious world that the viewer must explore as the show goes on and that really keeps the viewer interested, simply because it’s a unique and new experience. One gets to see steam power harnessed to power massive battleships that hover in the air. One gets to see WWII style planes being flown like they are modern jet fighters. One gets to see things that one never sees before, and it just makes the show/game that much more interesting and better for a viewer.

And any viewer can enjoy it, regardless of genre preferences, hobbies, likes, dislikes etc. Since each new steampunk show, movie or game is a completely new world and experience, each person starts off like everyone else, completely lost in it. They all have to explore and discover the unique qualities of the steampunk world, and taht brdiges the gap between their different preferences.

Well this is more like a scrap of my thoughts jumbled together, however it is here just to give those of you who have never watched steampunk shows to give them a try. You won’t regret trying it, and perhaps you might just regret missing out all this time.
