Way to Defeat Rogers Bittorrent Throttling

Recently, I discovered that SecureIX free accounts got a speed boost. So I have devised a new method to defeat Rogers bittorrent throttling. Of course this can be applied to any other ISP that throttles as well. This method isn’t perfect, but I think it works pretty nicely.

The first thing you do is sign up for a free account at SecureIX.

The method works quite simply. If your ISP does not throttle download, and only upload (which is the case of Rogers), then simply download the files from the torrent using your normal connection.

When you want to seed (a must for private trackers), just stop the torrent, connect to SecureIX VPN, and start seeding.

If you are throttled both upload and download, SecureIX VPN will needed to be run any time you are running torrents. It seems that when you are mostly uploading, you get more bandwidth than when uploading and downloading. The speeds are pretty decent still.

Note: you probably don’t want to use SecureIX VPN for your daily internet needs such as email, web browsing, direct downloads, video sites, and especially not in gaming due to high pings. Use it for bittorrent only.

So now you can see that this method can be a pain. However it is a great solution to the problem. I usually download during the day, and at night, I connect to SecureIX, set my upload speed to 80kb/s, and leave it seeding until the next morning.
