Microsoft Needs to Make More of its Online Web Services Firefox Compatible

Today I decided to try out the 3D feature of Windows Live Local which is powered by Microsoft Virtual Earth. I was using everyone’s favourite and Linux friendly browser Firefox. However, when I click on the 3D button, a little bubble pops up telling me to go to Windows Live Local in Internet Explorer 6 or 7! I definetly wasn’t happy. Firefox has about 15% of the internet market share right now. Yes I do realize that Internet Explorer still dominates, but Firefox’s share is slowly growing.

So I am wondering what runs through Microsoft’s head when they decide to only make a service that is Internet Explorer friendly. Internet Explorer definetely may own the largest market share, but you are losing out on a potential 15% of their users.

That’s my 2 cents on how Microsoft should improve their services.
