My Theory about Why Windows is Unstable While MacOS is Stable

This is my view on why Windows is unstable, while MacOS is very stable. First of all, Apple has been in the operating system business longer than Microsoft. Infact, they have been in business in computers for longer than Microsoft. This gives Apple the experience it needs to make a better operating system.

The big reason why MacOS is far more stable than Windows is that MacOS runs on Apple’s OWN hardware. Think about it, Apple makes the hardware that MacOS runs on. Therefore, Apple knows how the hardware interacts, and almost every possible thing, outcome, and conflict the hardware will produce. They also know what combinations are possible for the hardware, making their jobs easier, since they only have to make the OS run on their own hardware, which means easier integration and more seemless compatibility.

Microsoft on the other hand has a daunting task ahead of them. There are 1000s of hardware manufacturers, and tens of thousands of products that they produce. This means there are millions of combinations of hardware in any one PC. Making an operating system that can work with all these combinations stably, while making different hardware made by different manufacturers which means different interfaces and coding work together is a very tough job. It is obvious that the operating system won’t be stable on all combinations. It can only be designed to be stable on several thousand combinations. To make it stable on those millions of hardware combinations is physically impossible to do. You would have to employ many thousands of programmers just to get the product made in an acceptable period of time. Hiring that many programmers means the OS price will skyrocket, and there will be so much code, that the OS will be far too bulky to be feasible.

So to all you whiners out there who keep complaining Windows is unstable and slow; remember that making an OS for a PC is not a walk in the park. UNLESS you can make a better and more stable operating system, it would be wise to suck it up and live with Windows instead of complaining about it at every turn. Yes I hate it when Windows crashes or freezes up, but nothing made by humans is perfect. There will always be bugs to work out.

Interesting article, I quite enjoyed it. You should note that compiling drivers and testing hardware is the manufacturer’s job, Not microsoft. Also, as you noted Windows can crash, but that, more than likeley is the user’s fault. A vast majority of windows users know two things: The On/off switch, and how to post annoying rants on message boards. That bieng said, it is important to note that other OSes like the Linux/BSD family have versions to operate on many different architectures, from PPC, AMD to even airplanes, embedded systems and ATMs. But, and this point has been raised before, the most probable reason for Windows to have so many malicious software may be beacause it has a monopoly on the market. Almost all wierdos and lifeless teens use windows, and they realize they can screw up the most people by fucking around with it.
