Singapore to have nationwide WiFi by year’s end
Well according to the latest rumours reports, it seems that Singapore will be the latest country to get the 802.11 treatment. Eventually, Singapore will have all of its almost 700 square kilometers covered by WiFi. This means that Singapore will be the third nation to join the wireless elite of nations who have completely covered their land with WiFi joining Mauritius, Macedonia, and Estonia. A government report dubbed “Intelligent Nation 2015″ already notes that Singapore currently averages one WiFi hotspot for every square kilometer (far higher than in Canada and the United States). Combine this with the upcoming WiMax technology, and Singapore is aiming to be one giant hotspot instead of multiple ones by the end of the year. This is a very ambitious project, not to mention it will be on the pricey side. Also, the report also stats that every Singaporean will have 4G cell phones, “Fibre to the Home”, the “Semantic World Wide Web”, and “Embedded and Wearable Computers” by 2015. Well if all that comes to be true, then Singapore will be one of the most advanced nations around (kinda like a little Atlantis). If they do manage any of these, I might just move to Singapore since I won’t be seeing it here in Canada for a long time.
