The Land Walker robot hits the market

If having your own personal life sized Gundam model just isn’t glamorous for you, we’re thinking the Land Walker may just fit the bill. Last year we caught wind of Sakakibara Kikai’s terrorizing mobile robot, but figured it was just another fantastic use of scrap metal and spare time. Apparently Masaaki Nagumo, the machine’s inventor, thought otherwise — the 3.4 meter tall robotic transporter is reportedly now on sale (made-to-order, of course) in Japan for about 36 million yen.

I saw a video of this walker on YouTube.com. I never thought that they would actually sell it on the market. From what I’ve seen in the video, the Walker runs either on gasoline or diesel. You can see a five minute demonstration at:

From the demonstration, you can see that the it does actually walk, however at a very slow rate (1.5 km/h). There are two guns that come with it that shoot squishy pellets that aren’t lethal.

Now I know after you have read this, you are wondering which store you can run into to buy this. But before you decide to buy it, you should also take into account the $300,000 USD price tag. Right now, it is on sale in Japan, and since it’s a 1 ton piece of machinery, shipping isn’t going to come cheap either. Even if the company was willing to ship it, I doubt it will get past customs.
