Canadian Prime Minister to Fly Evacuees on his Private Plane
Well Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has taken his Prime Minister’s plane to Larnaca, Cyprus where he picked up 63 Canadian evacuees from Lebanon. This latest move by the Prime Minister is in face of government officials in Canada and many other Canadian citizens (including myself) are critizing the Canadian government of their slow response to evacuate Canadians out of Lebanon and about the government’s general handling of the crisis.
I considered Canadian response to evacuation was way too slow. Other countries already had ships and planes evacuating their citizens 24 hours before Canada even announced we were planning to send ships. This visit by Harper, I think is just to make him look better after his government came under fire. Unfortunately, most Canadians are not impressed by this action. We can see right through it. We know that this is just something he pulled off to try to boost his image after the criticism.
Hey Harper, instead of trying to make yourself look good by picking up 63 Canadians in your private jet, why not spend your time more wisely organizing how to get the about 22,000 Canadians in Lebanon out as quickly and efficiently as possible??? It would actually make you look good for once! You can’t expect that rescueing 63 Canadians out of 22,000 which is about 0.0028% of all the Canadians stuck in Lebanon is going to make you look good!
And another thing! How are you going to establish Canada as a middle power in this conflict and as an arbritrator if you side with Israel at the beginning of the conflict? I know we are a multicultural country and all that, but it seems to me you are favouring the Jews , but ignoring the problems thatĀ Muslims have in Lebanon isn’t going to get you far in our multicultural society.
Muslim Canadians slam Harper
Meanwhile, Muslim Canadians voiced their deep disappointment with Harper Thursday and urged him to uphold Canada’s tradition of peacekeeping.
Tyseer Aboulnasr, representing Canada’s Islamic groups, told a news conference that Harper’s apparent siding with Israel flies directly in the face of Canadian values.
“This is not about Muslims, this is not about Christians or about Jews, this is about human beings and it’s about Canadian values and what Canada does in the face of human tragedy and disaster as we are witnessing now in the Middle East war,” Aboulnasr said.

Seems to me that somebody isn’t happy.
Hey it’s not Lebanon’s fault that they don’t have a strong enough army to disarm Hezbollah. Israel should stop blaming the Lebanese government for failing to do so when Hezbollah is more powerful than the Lebanese army. Think about it. Hezbollah threw diplomacy out the window a while back, so the only way to disarm them now is to use military force. However, Lebanon still needs to recover from civil war and Israeli occupation, and doesn’t have the power to disarmĀ a militant group that is more powerful than their own army. Not to mention that Hezbollah is also backed by Syria and Iran, both powerful neighbours.
